What role does photography play in your life? Why do you like it?
Photography plays a huge role in my life. In the beginning it was just a small hobby, but I soon realized that photography means more to me. Today it is a huge part of my everyday life. Wherever I go, I always think in composition and frames, and pay attention to the light. And every chance I get, I'll be surfing the World Wide Web for inspiration and tips from all the outstanding photographers out there.
Photography for me is capturing precious moments in time and in turn preserving them for the future. Something I consider extremely valuable. It is also a way for me to express myself creatively and there seems to be endless possibilities as how to develop my own style and voice as a photographer. I've just begun this exciting and rewarding journey, and look forward to the continuation. An important and valuable part of the journey is definitely all the amazing people I get to meet with while photographing. I feel that as I grow as a photographer; I grow as a human being.
Do you see it as a hobby or as a professional occupation?
A year ago I would have answered that photography is just my hobby. But after studying photography for almost a year, and experiencing how much I actually live and breathe for photography, I would say that it is a part of me. And I am currently starting up a small business, and hope that it will give me more opportunities to spend time doing what I truly love.
Do you have any other hobbies?
I love all things creative. Like for example interior design, redesigning furniture or other items, baking and gardening when the weather is nice. Travel is also something that I love and could even call a hobby :)
What does “stylish” mean to you?
StyIish to me is expressing yourself through the things you surround yourself with. It may be your clothes, accessories, how you decorate your home etc. My style is often to choose things that are both functionally and pretty. No wonder I fell for the Palermo by POMPIDOO!
Could you please show some of your most precious pictures?Which do you like the most and why?e the most and why?
01. Eileen - This is a photo of my youngest cousin - Eileen. I met her for the first time when we visited family in California last year. I love to use natural light, and it influences my compositions a lot. In this case, the only source of natural light was above us. I had Eileen look up at me so I could take more advantages of this light source and also get some catch-lights in her eyes.. I love her expression, her hands and colourful clothes in this photo.
02. Isaac Alexander - This is a photo I took just a couple of days ago. Isaac Alexander is my precious godson, and I had a pleasure of visiting him on a bright April day. I always bring my camera, just in case. This time I couldn't resist capturing a few frames while he was enjoying a bowl of blueberries. For the time being I'm very inspired by Jose Villa's images, and I completely fell in love with one he has of a child focusing on her beautiful eyelashes. And Isaac has the most amazing eyelashes I've ever seen, so I decided to capture an image focusing on them. I like the simplicity of this image and the little story it tells. And of course I love his beautiful eyelashes.
03. Bride - A dream I have is to become a professional wedding photographer. Last month I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a bridal show. I was allowed to backstage and given the opportunity to document the event. I loved every second of it, and it boosted my will and desire to work even harder on realizing my dream. I like these two images of the "bride" getting ready. Details and emotions is what I wish to capture, and I feel I did a decent job with these ones.
04. Bjork - I truly love and enjoy photographing babies and children. So my adorable expressions, and they can be soooo challenging, but yet rewarding to work with. I let the child be in charge, go with the flow and see what develops. I've found that this approach gives me the most natural-looking and best pictures. The only thing I try to control is the way the natural light works with my subject. In this case, we had very nice and soft window light that gave beautiful catch light in Bjork's eyes. I love this image because Bjork is so adorable I could photograph her all day! I also like the bokeh effect and that her eyes are in focus.
05. Crocus - This is just an image I took during Easter. I love spring time, and when the crocuses emerge from their winter sleep, it is a certain sign that spring is on its way. So I brought one in with me, and captured a simple, yet symbolic image - at least for me. This coming spring and summer will be amazing - I just know it :)
Eline Jacobine - And finally here's a self-portrait. Just me - full of freckles and joy of having photography in my life.
Me and my gear - Left: Keeping it smile in my beloved POMPIDOO bag: Canon 5D Mark iii, Canon 50 mm 1,2L, memory cards and Miss Lady Bug (baby attention prop). Right: Getting to know my camera at Venice Beach, CA. I absolutely L-O-V-E my POMPIDOO bag, and have used it every single day since I got it.
Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful and functional camera bag! Palermo is my trusted companion for every photo shoot and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm also very thankful that you wanted to write about me in your blog! If anyone wants to see more of my work, you are welcome to check out my blog at www.elinejacobine.com (mostly in Norwegian, but I'll be writing more English posts in the future).
Special thanks to Eline for her time and beautiful pictures!
